They're chasing micro transactions. The infinite money button. The game where they can get >15% of players paying $5+ a week on the game. You don't get that with single player, narrative driven games. Shareholders and short term gain has ruined games.

It's also super frustrating at times to interact with as a player. The company that built it made a game and I legit rage quit because one of the characters rambled on for 20 minutes and I couldn't leave the conversation.

I will say, out of all Gen Ai stuff, this was the main one I saw making its way into games. Definitely validated the voice actors strike in my eyes. I'm curious how this affects writers, because you still need people to heavily edit the behaviors and what not.
