Even from observations we could see that these were extensive frameworks, but the models suggested they were also be abundant across the area!

In comparison, these deep reefs are virtually unknown! They present a potential deep sea carbonate factory in the Red Sea and definitely deserve more attention!

We found that these frameworks could cover around 250 km2- equalling 1/3 of the area of shallow reefs in the same region. These shallow reefs are well known, well studied, and the focus of KCRI’s huge coral restoration project
