So the emoticon is an expression of the Holy Trinity: a heart symbol made of the printed letter V (in German early modern printing meaning a "U") and a cap that looks either like the number "3" or a crossed-epsilon ampersand. In the text, the cap is the "trinum".

The last time I did an all-in Middle English course* was spring 2022! It's been a long time!

* I taught my Global Middle Ages course in fall 2022, but that's mostly work in translation

Just such a total and complete nerd about teaching people to think about the book and its digital surrogates as a whole material-textual object that is made and remade through centuries of mostly-unacknowledged labor and also about fifteenth-century Middle English writing

It's not allowed. But it's extremely difficult to detect. In this case, one student was using Google Gemini to generate answers to the prompts, and then entering them manually as a post to a discussion board on her school's CMS
