The ability to defend his actions beyond “but I love her 🥺” is, dare I say, the whole fucking point. The entire plot of TLOU2 was that everyone has their own legitimate reasons to commit the acts of violence they do, but those reasons do not excuse them from the consequences of their actions.

It just doesn’t make sense to me why they would erase the part of Joel’s motivation where he has genuine, objectively valid, doubts that a cure would be possible, and is scared that Ellie would die as nothing more than a failed science experiment. It’s a HUGE part of any defense for his actions.

Is this cringe? Yeah absolutely. Am I having a miserable week, and am I clinging to every win? Also incredibly yes.
