I've never been on food stamps a day in my life.I've been a homeowner for 16+ years, the last time I was a renter was b4 phones had internet.I'm in a str8 marriage, own 2 businesses & make a good living. I am an employer, not an employee. Most of the things I fight for do not affect me whatsoever.

So being that I'm not a self-absorbed sociopath who only cares about things when they affect me directly, I struggle to understand why some people are ok watching other humans suffer. Or even worse, enjoying watching others suffer.

They only care when it affects them. Screw everyone else, I got mine. They can't fathom caring about the poor, because they've been fortunate enough to not experience the desperation of poverty. They don't give a shit about immigrants, because they aren't an immigrant.

I find it weird because as an empathetic person, as a person who believes in basic human decency, as a person who believes in doing our best to help others and ease the suffering of our fellow humans, I realize that this segment of the population is coming from the exact opposite mindset than I am.

If you fight for fair, non-exploitative rentals, you must be a disgruntled renter who's jealous of home-owners.

I find it weird that there's a segment of the population that thinks that anyone who believes the disadvantaged should have food assistance, automatically means you must be on food stamps. If you fight for gay rights, you must be gay. If you spend your Friday at a protest, you must be unemployed.
