Mostly just here to follow and occasionally respond. I was also a nobody on Twitter. Lawyer (not that kind). 願其名泯絕
Oh cool, that’s where Hollenthon got the image for the cover of “Domus Mundi.”

Though in this day and age, I can’t see this without thinking it’s the sequel to the point-blank-tuba girls meme.

I already agreed and also just realized that ROS feels like someone sarcastically pitched a Star Wars script while making a wanking motion but then studio tried to make it earnestly.

I don't know if I should be relieved or disappointed that the only American-labeled items I saw in Iceland 20 years ago were cool American Doritos, which were just cool ranch Doritos with one word changed.

-1: We just need community* to protect ourselves

We have an FBI agent family friend who tries to tell everyone he knows that Roblox is one of the busiest neo-Nazi recruiting grounds around.

Wow, that is an uncanny resemblance to God’s Favorite Idiot (this picture does not accurately depict the jiggle physics of his belly, which would befuddle Newton)

Gonna try to make “How are you immanentizing the eschaton today?” happen

I ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THIS!

And have some fun with it too. Pedestrianism. The Pittsburgh straw hat riot. Vampire exhumations. Fear of street lights. Make sure they hear the echoes of fads and moral panics and oddities down through the ages.

Couldn’t tell you a number, but I vaguely remember having to nervously rely on cultural osmosis to bluff my way through a question on the Vietnam War.

This is a long-term gripe of mine. I graduated high school in 2002 and all three of our high school history class (AP US, regular US, and World) ended in 1945 (to be fair, we got a little of the Civil Rights movement in other classes but not in history)

Minimally apropo, but my then-8-year-old listened to podcast episodes about the burning Cuyahoga and the clean up that she had a mini religious experience when she was finally able to wade it in near Akron. It’ll always have a place in my heart as a result.

Brett Kavanaugh: There is no difference between thousands of dollars to a politician to get a specific outcome and a college student giving their professor a $50 Chipotle gift card after the semester, therefore bribery laws are unconstitutional

The original Long Branch in Centerburg is the superior Branch, at least as of the last time I ate it several years ago.

But if Kamala didn’t run on identity issues, why would the Republicans flog those issues relentlessly?

Completely agree, but if that’s not what I’m communicating when I explain it, I need to change who I explain it.
November 16, 2025 at 9:23 PM
Gonna have to think of this. I have a family member who was extremely niche influencer until accusations came out and I’ve always said he got MeTooed when explaining it. My intent is to indicate that his bad private actions became public and there were consequences, but I understand the critique.

The one I always think about is West Virginia. From a presidential perspective, it was a reliably Democrat vote for 70ish years, swung to Bush in 2000, and just seems to keep getting redder and redder since.

It’s fun and remains the only Rider series I’ve watched start to finish (and that was back before fan subs). I’ll probably randomly chant “AH-MA-ZOOOONN!” well into my dotage.

I’m convinced that this is how the Trump-voters-in-a-diner genre started, but then they lost the “get a load of these assholes” subtext to the stories and just kept doing them anyway.

I used to work in an office where we had a typewriter at the front desk. Whenever I used it, clients thought it was so cute and quaint. They were unaware that it was because an already signed deed was messed up and we had to fix it before recording.

Joseph Heller’s “Picture This” changed the way I (a history degree holder) think about repeating patterns and personalities throughout history.

I’m curious if refugees resettling from San Francisco or Chicago or something would settle elsewhere in enough numbers to warp political outcomes.

Strong agree on these two, though I will take Ebirah Horror of the Deep over the horribly generic Godzilla vs the Sea Monstwr

Not that insurance companies will be less greedy, necessarily, but because the consumer will finally be able to negotiate. Just two equally positioned and powered parties, the massive insurance conglomerate and the individual median consumer. The consumer will surely extract better cheaper coverage.
