That's great! It's also bananas that both Trump and the WH Press Secretary talk as though other countries pay these tariffs -- not importers, who generally pass the cost on to American consumers. If they could be required not to lie repeatedly about this (and so much else), that would be amazing.

I can't possibly overstate how insane, cruel, and dangerous this is. They are antagonizing support for democracy and human rights overseas as well as at home. As your constituent, I hope you'll do everything you can to fight this unconstitutional power grab.

Fascinating! Most of the examples mentioned here in association with the safe-world fallacy seem to accord with the idea that most people's assessment of risk is radically socially informed. To what extent do you think the social is at play here, vs. an abstract belief in a safe world per se?

This seems to accord nicely with Bourdieu's theory of the power of the doxa (roughly: norms that truly go without saying) vs. the lesser power of orthodoxy (norms that must be explicitly asserted) -- which is to say that I like it.
