Housewife (she/her) and unpublished amateur writer. Grew up a Southern Baptist in GA, currently an Episcopalian in MA after several stops along the way.
Why does everyone always default to 'well there's your problem, just add garlic and butter' now?

On toasted bread, very yes. On everything else, not sure I would have survived if I was born in the Picky Tastebuds Love Butter On Everything Even Noodles era instead of the 1980s.

Even from out of a can can be two completely different things.

Grandma stove-boiled canned green beans to death and could not accept it was the texture I hated and no variety changes nothing if they're all Like That.

Green beans from a can lightly reheated? Standable and we're experimenting.

Good relationship with local church, even if it is online access right now, and with this priest.

(And he would be telling me to attend more often. As sponsor/godfather when I switched over to the Episcopalians, that was part of his sworn-unto-his-maker duty after all. Esp since I tend to retreat.)

Anniversary of a death (next week makes a decade), so I'm joking about the distraction-seeking to cope.

Open calendar 30-23 then first gift Christmas Eve or open calendar 1-24 as marked.

I don't have one so I can just sit on the sidelines enjoying the Chocolate Is On The Line mayhem. (It's going to be a bad Advent here and I need some distraction.)

May thy treatment be easy and thy vocal cords be protected from the effects of expressing thy righteous indignation and offense at the appropriate receptacle.

Because wow.

You do have to be a little careful with that, because 1) Youngest Will Say Grace traditions do weird things with generational age gaps (I was the 'baby' at over 25 after one cousin moved out) and 2) if you've got that one relative who's going to go full critique mode if anything is off (my grandma).

And it's a great day for Rote and Short.

Never quite understood keeping the loooong freeform prayer at the one meal of the year where we were going to spend the next 15 minutes having my great-aunt the Sunday School teacher lead us in the annual Go Around The Table And Say What You're Thankful For.

So, every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter in high school it was the same blend of relatives.

And the kids and the women went first, bc of what the men did to the deviled egg tray.

They decided to atone for their gluttony by bringing enough for everyone to have enough. To the same gathering.

I missed the main series but went straight to Lords Of Magic SE via the demo on Caesar 2.

Oh for the days when plot-complete demo games came with games.
November 25, 2025 at 3:24 AM
That entire era of that series. (And GOG has them all, btw.)

Fave is Emperor because they finally got the walls and roadblocks to *work*, but I love the mechanics in Pharaoh.

I took advantage of the mp3 voices to have C3's "The gods are angry, we're all doomed!" as the OS error noise in undergrad.

At least that was the math I remember doing a long time ago.

We shouldn't be piling things like that on young adults just starting out. 'Here, call in all your favors and hope your parents aren't the You Are An Adult We Are Handing You Responsibilities Without The Capabilities Good Luck sort'.
November 24, 2025 at 8:13 AM
The parents don't even have to be estranged. Mine flat-out went 'we did the paperwork in undergrad and aren't participating now, besides there's a family offer of help' re grad school.

I was 24 when I got my MA. I finally married out of the resulting cultural obligations at 32. Under 25¢ an hour.

When it's a month until Christmas, you're living at home, and your personal budget is thin, the words I Want Nothing Else For Christmas tend to enter the equation early and often when getting your coursework done is at stake.

Walked out with the cheapest laptop and it was 3x better than I wanted.
November 24, 2025 at 2:17 AM
Also just what features someone needs.

My laptop broke in the middle of grad school, right about now '07. I got a big speech about being greedy when I mentioned I had thought out the min specs already.

Those minimum specs were so far under current they weren't available pre-owned at Microcenter.

And A LOT were already being sold with SSD by 2019.

Just got a hand-me-down MacBook Pro and the only upgrade I needed to do everything I want at a speed I can stand is Migraines Demand Antiglare Screen Protector. I'm writing, not compiling or rendering, so Will Run Current OS is close enough.

And acting like cottage cheese is automatically healthy. Volume! Pairing!

Also someone is in denial about the variablity of Good Culture texture and taste. But that's another But Health Food argument, bc of all the stuff on the label re bacteria. (It's one of the foods that got me through 2018.)

Me losing all residual impostor syndrome re my asexuality at midnight last night to the tune of RFK Jr's attempt at the 'love' 'poetry' genre.

Which was released without his permission at midnight on the anniversary of his uncle's assassination. Is there an OOPS All Bastards category?

Can I pick the alternate of 'wow that is an amazing string of 97% results on church bylaw votes' re my childhood church where the biggest clique that trusted each other enough to reveal opposition to that pastor was just under 3%?

Less damaging, already have a low opinion of that pastor, etc.

Sometimes my stomach just really wants 3 more hours to wake up (and I wish my asthma meds schedule would let me join it in that)! I can still get three meals in, just not Before Noon.
November 23, 2025 at 1:31 AM
And you carry things in your notes that bias people.

I'm going to a team dental office and a team primary care. "Seasonal allergies" as note on appetite-loss in 2018 kept me from treatment and delayed asthma diagnosis, can't get the dentists to understand I care more about eating than Pretty.

Biggest issue I ever had was people not getting that no, me using SBC terms to describe milestones in my SBC childhood was not questioning if over half the parish was saved. And that repeatedly. Then the only person I've ever met with that same experience is in my current parish but cradle so WHYYY.
