Yeah, I'm not advocating for its return, my point is that when removing this sort of thing (which is entirely the right approach), councils need to find alternate solutions rather than just doing nothing. We seem to have a tendency to let things fall into disrepair before taking action.

I do get the reasons for this but Edinburgh doesn't use anything for pavements anymore according to the council site, and honestly the pavements where I live are more grass, weed and moss than tar right now. Arguably some of it is just visual but mossy is not great from a slippy perspective.
