Jar Jar Binks is the commercial add on. I don’t think he’s meant to be as prominent as his annoyance factor makes him appear.

Even my partner has started to call this out. “What, no roaches at all? For twenty somethings just starting after college?”

Every movie attempts to commercialize to gain as large a portion of market share as possible. Why, precisely, is that weird? Should the war have been goofy and handwaved?

I think the principle of “never give an order you know isn’t going to be obeyed” applies also to “never make a threat you know you won’t be able to carry out.”

The fact that the U.S. Congress is too stupid to understand both of these principles is its own issue.

In this case, his replacement has already been selected in advance, so he isn’t risking anything; he knows, and presumably approves, of his replacement.

So, back when shoes costs a week's wages was in the early 1800s (I know this, because I was a living historian). So let's plug in your numbers. $1000 in 1818 is worth $25,509.92 today.

Meanwhile, a week's wages, on average, was $1.75. Worth about $45. Meaning it would cost TWO week's wages to buy⤵️

I own a pair of leather military boots, bought for about 250$ in 2003, that still are perfect and gorgeous today. They require only polishing. I wore the absolute shit out of them.

I used to be able to resole them to the same standard for $20.
