Suppose the situation were worse and we *knew* somehow that country X would launch a nuke as soon as it got one. Would preventive bombing of their enrichment plants and nuclear labs still be illegal?

If yes, sounds like the law has bad consequences, if no, surely there's an argument against Iran

std::array<some_type, some_size> with std::get<some_index>(some_array) does that, no? Or do you want it to expand on the heap if we get past that size?

Same question about him then?

Why? CIA is also a separate agency... Or is it more independent than state dept?
May 3, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Probably fantasy and risky to impeach the 3 top guys on the list. Then it becomes easy to attack Congress, including before SCOTUS, for abusing their power to reverse an election they don't like. Impeachment might be a political football but it's still technically only for proven crimes

Doesn't that depend on where the country is as of right now? In France parties called "liberal" are closer to the US left because the US status quo is righter than most parties France has economically, I think (that also applied before Trump v2)

probably makes sense to maintain the larger ones just as much to make them credible to others while not actually being ready for a large-scale exchange. it's not like anyone expects them to do any good if they get used

Sure, I saw the US system as always semi-presidential with the pres just being that powerful because he's chief exec of an unreasonably dominant country for much of the twentieth century, so the second part of your post was confusing

X bots will finally become useful (for the owner only though)

rating agencies probably don't factor in the huge EU defense deficit, or consider that short-term German debt is very solid (which it is)
February 4, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Actually that's worse, it's pretty obvious from Europe that your system is somewhat biased towards the side that's not good for us, or you probably. Combined with almost half of all voters liking footguns, it's not reassuring for the future unless the electoral system changes radically
February 4, 2025 at 2:20 PM
Germany will start struggling to keep that up I think. Easy to stay AAA when you're coasting on US defense spending and an aging auto industry that won't last the next two decades. Also weren't they pretty happy to get cheap Russian gas?
February 4, 2025 at 2:18 PM
In France the president can dissolve the assembly once a year, he can also fire his PM and remake the govt as many times as he wants, in the US Congress is completely independent from the president and can stop his high-level appointments
February 4, 2025 at 2:10 PM
French 5th Republic has always been strong-pres though, and wasn't the US Pres always unable to push past Congress like he's trying to do now?

Oh also the decade-long tradition of typing an address in, typing enter, seeing it immediately go back to the current address, then annoying me with a popup _five minutes later_ saying it couldn't connect
January 3, 2025 at 10:03 AM
At work the slightly redesigned explorer.exe keeps _failing to make its address bar work_, half the time the dropdown stays open after I validate

My machine is not even able to SMB into itself 9 times out of 10 (didn't see a GP that would cause this, I know the IT guy)

Everything is janky

try being a low then midbie then going back when you're tired and take a break for a couple months

Going to a concert alone with the earplugs and just vibing and taking the crowd and music in
January 3, 2025 at 9:56 AM
I mean that's mostly true for open-source ones that few normal users have. Gmail's web UI is instant, Outlook with an MS/Exchange account is push or feels like it. I get all these emails in about 5 seconds.

regular planning helps monitor progress and adjust course and the first day of the year is as good a target as any

could also do five-year plans too but countries move slower than people usually

on my mac, music + a Teams call makes the music absolutely awful, distorted and with constantly changing volume

Don't they both have dual roles? Defense and espionage? Will the NSA focus on the former now, or is it more like DIA/CIA?
