The most consistent fight I've had as a journalist has been over the use of hedge words. Many editors think they convey weakness instead of recognizing that it is absolutely our role of journalists to convey uncertainty. In fact I once wrote a story about hedge words based on reader feedback
Hurricanes might be worsening, coffee could save your life, and hedging is definitely a huge part of science
In other words, it’s better for researchers to under-promise and over-deliver than the opposite.
