We cannot just ask a slave to fetch materials for us, or spend mana to transfigure something.” Amamiya’s face grew red. “I’m not part of an enclave.” Goro’s eyes went from his t-shirt to the mana-sharer that emitted a gentle yellow glow on his wrist. “Really?”

A WIP. It reads: "His time in the school wasn’t loved, nor hated. It was necessary: when young sorcerers reached a certain age, they produced mana in an uncontrollable way, which made them a tasty treat for shadows. The population of these demons grew in such a way that it became impossible for parents to protect their kids; not even Enclave kids were safe from being decimated by a shadow while playing in the garden. So the Scholomance was created to make a safe haven for children; to be a safeguard, to ‘teach and care’. Whether it was worth it or not, well, it was better for their survival to have a "maybe they won’t die” than “surely they will”. The bell vibrated throughout the school in its morning glory, indicating that it was already safe to get out of the room. Goro sat up on his bed, eyes scanning the room as he learned to do in those four years. His room could be barely called one: it was so small that the bed, lodged in the left corner, occupied most of the space. He never bothered to measure it out; calling it two by one meters would be too generous. It was normal for rooms to start like this when you enter the Scholomance — you were fourteen, everything seemed and was bigger than you were. What was not normal, however, was that his room never increased in size. When one of your neighboring classmates died, the school merged your room with theirs in the following weeks. But the deceased were scarce, and it was the fault of a certain hero."

Happy #WIPWednesday! Work has kept me from writing but the bestiary is done and ready :3 So here are some entries that I particularly like, from the hand of our goroboi. He needs to keep track of these things #jjw
A WIP. It reads: "Treasure Demons: Pests. They feed from the mana of any objects they consider are treasure. Which means, anything you may care about. Within the Scholomance, anything is a treasure. Assessment: Bothersome. They are not lethal, but they tend to break magical artifacts and drive artificers crazy. [To Note: Sakura will trade favors in exchange for dealing with them] [Counternote: She doesn’t like me dealing with them, because apparently I don’t have control and destroy the artifact in the process.] [It happened only ONE time]." Onmoraki: Looks like a fried onion-chicken hybrid. It’s found in the cafeteria, alongside the food, and when disturbed, it haunts its chosen victim. Assessment: Not deadly, just humiliating [You will never live down being haunted by this thing]. Ice spells work nicely on it. Be careful with the food [or you will leave everybody and yourself without food for the period. Again]. Alice: Oh, boy. Alice is said to have been once a student of the Scholomance that was pouched and was presumed dead in the Void. Whenever she appears, she takes children with her to save them from the Scholomance. Unique shadow in existence [Is it even a shadow? Or a curse?] Assessment: She never appeared to me. If we are considering age, I shouldn’t be in danger anymore. She won’t die, just go away. Neothelid: Eel-like shadow of enormous proportions. Another menace to enclaves: if it’s able to enter through water, it will trash and break everything in its path. Not commonly seen these days. [Does the Tokyo Enclave have water in any big proportion?] Ask Okumura. Maw-Mouth: Putrid mass of flesh that has eyes and mouths all over its body. It’s constantly moaning and screaming, but not because it does: it’s the remnants of the victims it ate. The maw-mouth absorbs the mana and destroys the victims, their limbs and body parts seen through its translucent flesh, but their victims don’t die, their remains forever inside the creature. It is the common killer of enclaves: it requires a huge amount of mana to destroy one, and a lot of fallen sorcerers. The Scholomance has two: Justine and Caroline, guarding the door. Assessment: DO. NOT. ENGAGE.

Another #WIPWednesday, sharing parts of the outline of the Scholomance AU. This one is a bit sad and I hope to bring that sadness to life, the fact that these kids are not safe inside the school. And...they are kids.

CW: Character Death, Corpse
A WIP from the Scholomance AU. It reads: "After breakfast, Ren asks him to go and check Sugimura’s room, to see if they can find the remains of Shiho. Goro notices that Ann (the enclaver from Boston), Yusuke and Ryuji (and the cat) are with him, and warns that it is possible they won’t handle what they’ll see. They still agree to go there, and Goro follows. Sugimura’s room was the one next to the stairs, which was the worst room to be in, as it was the closest to the Graduation Hall—the room reeks of something like chloroform and embalming liquid, and right there, there’s a trunk where Shiho’s body is kept in a pristine state. Almost…her cheeks were hollow, and she was a lot skinnier than the last time seen, and she had a sewn wound on her neck. Goro says right there that he must have been using the Malia from her body sparingly, the pungent smell keeping the shadows at bay. He turns then to see Ann crying. She says thank you to Goro, for which he doesn’t understand, and he excuses himself to go to classes as usual. Unbeknownst to the rest, he took Sugimura’s mana sharer from the Tokyo Enclave."

A WIP. It reads: "Of course, in the following days the Scholomance responds. Whether it is closing the door of the cafeteria, giving them worse food or more contaminated food than it used to be, giving them worse rewards in the snack machines, and even impeding them to turn up an essay, the school wasn’t letting them live easily until graduation came. Goro unfortunately is also included in these punishments, and more than once you can see him kicking the walls and yelling that it wasn’t his fault, why is it including him?!"

Something about Lala and Chihaya being mother figures for Goro in this world moves something in me.

I'm having so much fun with the Scholomance AU
A bestiary created by Akechi about the different shadows found within the Scholomance: BESTIARY Or: A guide for dealing with the daily shadow attacks in the Scholomance, by Goro Akechi. Obariyon: A demon that loves to piggyback on unsuspecting wizards to leech on their mana. Unless noticed, the Obariyon will keep eating the mana until the wizard dies, and then go for the next victim. Assessment: Lower-class demon. Any magic spell that produces light will detach it from the victim. Bugs: Teddy bear corrupted by the feelings of its owner and those around them. The shadow possesses the teddy bear and eats the owner before going to another. At first it fakes being a plushie, but the more mana it eats, the bigget it gets, and no longer cares for hiding. Assessment: Dangerous when it gets big, but highly flammable. Treasure Demons: Pests. Tend to feed from the mana of objects that are considered treasures by wizards. Within the Scholomance, they get to artificer-created objects and weapons. Assessment: Bothersome. Sakura hates them; she lends the weapons she creates in exchange for dealing with the creachers. Agathion: Blue demon that hides within jars and trunks to attack unsuspecting wizards. First-years confuse them with mimics. These are not mimics. Assessment: Non-lethal. It can release a spark that could leave you from dizzy to unconscious if not careful. Destroy alongside its hiding spot.
