Then we will calculate the Daily Probability of Being Saved by an effective medicine

I don’t need no Ivy League academic pedigree. Modern medicine is an open book test. A decent brain and a clear mission will do.

Some need to be reminded why they are here. Others, how to improve. Or how to get healthy so they can do the job.

On time I was called to a CODE for an apneic patient in their bathroom with a syringe connected to the PICC line and a spoon and a lighter on the sink edge.

This story was believable.

I hate it.

When the same exact situation occurs when the patient is a federal judge o the president of the bank, nobody bats an eye.

“His family came and he fell asleep. How nice.”

There is never any evidence presented. Only a visit and a change.

There is always the implication “you know how these people are.” “You know what they do.”

I remember thinking when I’d finished residency I had seen it all.

In my 50’s I’m still getting better at anticipating the next steps. And spotting when things aren’t what I thought.

You can’t lie though. It’s also okay to say, “This is a new one for me. I’m going to go read about it. I’m going to talk to my colleagues. I’m going to get some help.”
