Alejandra Muñoz is Senior Project Officer at Dutch peace organization PAX, where she is currently involved in the Don’t Bank on the Bomb research, and is the lead author of the recently published report ‘At Great Cost: The companies building nuclear weapons and their financiers.’ Prior to joining PAX, Alejandra worked as a legal advisor in the International Crimes & Accountability program of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) in Berlin, and with the Colombian lawyers' collective Colectivo de Abogados José Alvear Restrepo (CAJAR) in Bogotá. Every year, billions of pounds flow through our banks, pension funds, and financial institutions that invest in companies producing nuclear weapons - making the threat of nuclear war even more real. We’re demanding these financial institutions move their money away from companies that manufacture and trade in weapons of mass destruction. And we’re inviting you to join us as we build a nationwide campaigning movement, applying pressure to ensure these institutions withdraw their support for the nuclear weapons industry. Whether you’re an experienced activist, or just learning about the issue, join us for the launch of the Don’t Bank on the Bomb campaign toolkit to learn more about nuclear weapons, divestment campaigning, and how to get involved!

Health workers we interviewed said: “Hospitals are where illness is treated, right. So we tend to work with this idea that health is addressed through use of health services. But experiences that me and my colleagues have had show that actually health is created at home.”

The research – a nationally representative survey – found that two thirds of health workers regularly see children with breathing problems caused or worsened by mould or damp with over 30% seeing this on a weekly basis.

FOI data reveals top companies profiting from £billions councils spend on 'temporary accommodation' for homeless families.
This includes some of the worst UK housing conditions – Medact member Amaran describes the 'bleak picture' of health impacts.

Shown our findings, Dr Amaran Uthayakumar-Cumarasamy, an NHS paediatrician who works with campaign group Medact, questioned whether it was right that private companies are making profits from this sector. He says: “Health workers witness the impact of unsafe, unaffordable and insecure housing on children and young people on a daily basis. Undernutrition, respiratory illness and poor mental health are symptomatic of the failures of an unjust housing system. The use of temporary accommodation paints an especially bleak picture for both the short and long-term damage done to the physical, mental and social health of children and young people.”

Susi Snyder is the Programme Coordinator at the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Her responsibilities include facilitating the development and execution of ICAN's key programmes, including the management of ICAN's divestment work and engagement with the financial sector. Prior to this, Susi coordinated the Don’t Bank on the Bomb project for over a decade. She is an expert on nuclear weapons, with experience working at the intersect between nuclear weapons and human rights. Steve Hucklesby is a Policy Adviser on International Affairs for the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), where he supports the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church in dialogue with the UK government and Parliament around foreign and defence policy and response to the climate crisis. Steve also acts as an advisor to the Joint Advisory Committee for the Ethics of Investment of the Methodist Church in Britain.
