Insecure people never change because they are hilariously successful in deceiving themselves when they feel cornered.

The real change begins when you can't fight off the immensely painful condition you find yourself in with no naivete at your disposal.

The basic fact that we cannot suffer constantly, but even suffering ebbs and flows, creates an opportunity/space for the illegitimacy of the retribution of that suffering. A mind that cannot operate stochastically seems to be doomed to invalidate any claim it comes up with, for everything changes.

One of the most exciting ideas that I have encountered during my PhD was Hans Blumenberg's idea of the "ruthlessness of the world."

The fact that the world is inconsiderate about my intentions, wishes, and desires has been so obvious yet disturbing.
