Page four of the Pilot Datasheet for the Lancer Character "Lyn Hwang" At the head of the document there is a warning that the following information is "level 3" classified, and to report any unauthorized access to U.I.B immediately. It details how Lyn's memories of being a guerilla fighter are fake, and that she was recovered from her crashed fighter by enemy forces. She was then brainwashed by the scientist Dr. Montri, becoming known as "Subject-778". The Dr transmitted the skills needed to pilot a mech into her brain before inserting her into an elite Reigellian mech unit known as Phantom Squad under the callsign 'Falcon', where she would fight her former comrades. This, plus the abuse she suffered from the base staff and her commanding officers left her traumatized, but she eventually found comfort in the arms of Panther, her commanding officer. One day she was summoned for a new assignment, before having her memory wiped and the false memories inserted. She was sent home in a PoW exchange, and primed to receive a command to sabotage the Holmese war effort from within. The command never came because of the unexpected end of the war, but unconsciously she is still waiting to receive it by tuning in her Omnihook each night. At the very end of the document a footnote has been added by an Agent Donovan, who states the following: "It is this agent’s opinion that Subject-778 be brought into U.I.B custody, preferably without disrupting the artificial memories in the event it reawakens her dormant programming, so that any information on the location of Dr. Montri and Orca that might be inside her memories can be extracted."

So about half a year ago, @splashzone.bsky.social asked me if I wanted to join in a Lancer TTRPG campaign. I said yes, but little did I know at that time how many goddamn words I'd end up writing about my little blorbo. Please perceive all these words (and also the very nice artwork SpZ drew of her)

It states she was born on Holmoth, joined their starfighter corps and led a squadron during their war with Reigel. She was shot down over the enemy planet and joined resistance forces in a guerilla war, stealing a mech and learning how to pilot it. Eventually Union intervened in the war, forcing a cease-fire. Lyn was able to return home, but found she was unable to return to civilian life, eventually deciding to become a mercenary and leaving the star system with a mysterious job offer. It also talks about how protective she is of her younger and inexperienced teammates. It details how her style of strict leadership can put her at odds with teammates from a different background. Page three of the Pilot Datasheet for the Lancer Character "Lyn Hwang" PILOT EQUIPMENT: ►WILKINS HU-59 (LIGHT SIGNATURE) A select-fire personal defence weapon (PDW) commonly issued to pilots and vehicle crews. The weapon’s compact size allows it to be holstered to a user's leg and kept out of the way while piloting. When drawn it can be fired with one hand, or the stock can be extended for use as a two-handed carbine. ►WERNER SURVIVAL KNIFE (LIGHT A/C) A large, rugged, fixed-blade knife often used by survivalists and soldiers. It features a serrated segment on the blade, wire cutters in the sheath, and a small waterproof compartment in the handle. ►MERCURIO MOBILITY HARDSUIT An older generation of hardsuit typically issued to starfighter pilots and maintenance crews operating in zero-g environments. It features a helmet with a large glass dome that provides excellent visibility, a quick-change system for oxygen tanks, and an emergency beacon with a 1km range. ►SSC SYLPH UNDERSUIT Lyn acquired this undersuit early in her travels as a mercenary, as she felt it would be useful during multi-day missions, especially in space. The suit’s transformation abilities are controlled via electrical impulses sent from a bracelet around her wrist. ►OMNIHOOK This bulky terminal folds open to reveal a screen, keyboard, and everything else needed to browse the Omninet from anywhere in the galaxy. When not in use, it can be carried around via a shoulder strap, and the hardshell case protects it from impact and water damage. This has been in Lyn’s possession since she returned from the war, but she can’t recall where it came from. ►SMART SCOPE This digital monocle can be used either as a standalone unit, or mounted to a rifle via an adapter. In addition to the included power-saving features and long-lasting battery, it can also be quickly recharged via the use of common power packs.

The two figures had been following her ever since she stumbled out of the bar. They kept their hands in the pockets of their jackets, probably just to keep out the cold, but maybe, just maybe because that’s where they kept their weapons concealed. The war had ended years ago, and yet she couldn’t help but hear her drill instructor’s warnings about how to spot partisans every time she was out on the street. She ducked into a nearby alley, praying she had just been paranoid, that these two were just heading home for the night. However, her prayers weren’t answered, and now these two stood side-by-side, bridging the gap between the buildings, blocking her escape. “At the bar, you... you said you were in the military, right?” The taller one asked, approaching closer and closer. These two must have heard her try to impress whatever pretty thing bothered to give her a glance while she drank her sorrows away. It never worked, the scars the Empire had left behind always caused people to suddenly get stony-faced and lose interest in interacting with her when they learned she devoted her life to the enemy. That is, if she was lucky. If she wasn’t, she ended up with some new bruises, and donating some fresh blood to the sidewalk. She was pretty sure her luck wasn’t running hot right now either. “W-what the hell do you two want?” She tried to sound tough, but the night’s liquid courage quickly ran dry in the face of the odds in front of her. “Pilots right?” The tall one said, as the two of them advanced toward her, stopping only inches away from her face. In the glow of the last remaining dregs of a cigarette hanging outside of the tall one’s mouth, she could see the gaunt face of a woman, an emptiness in her eyes, but an expression that hungered to feel full again. Maybe she filled it up by hunting down former members of the regime. “You said you... ‘trained’ them, didn’t you?” She heard the footsteps of the short one as they circled around her, but unable to take her eyes away from the dead stare of the woman in front of her. Fuck, mech frames had been some of the most effective weapons during the war, these two had probably lost a lot of rebel friends to them. “Wait!” She yelled as she stumbled backwards, nearly falling over in the process. “I lied, okay? I never had anything to do with pilots, I just worked in logistics!” Speaking the truth hurt, she hadn’t even been someone with prestige or power, but just another clerk invisibly oiling the gears that caused so much suffering. “But does that mean you’ve never seen Her?” The shorter one finally spoke up, her lighter voice tinged with sadness as she asked the question. The way she treated that last word with such reverence must mean this person meant a lot to them, but how the hell could she possibly know who this person was if they wouldn’t even give ‘Her’ a name? Then it hit her. ‘Pilots’, ‘Her’. The combination of words conjured the black leather clad woman who suddenly appeared on the base one day back into her mind. The way the captured rebel pilots eagerly grinded against her boot, dog muzzles firmly attached to their faces. How she had always felt a pang of jealousy, wishing she was the one wearing the boots instead. “Y-yeah, I think I’ve seen her. Look, I don’t know her name or anything else, alright? I didn’t do anything to you, so just let me get home... please?” She saw the tall woman fish around in her pocket, no doubt fishing for a knife to gut this escaped traitor now that they realized she had no information to give. She closed her eyes, unable to watch her impending death she should have been dealt years ago. She heard the click of metal, and waited to feel the knife slide between her ribs. When moments passed and nothing happened, she slowly opened her eyes, only to see both women kneeling in the snow, leashes attached by metal clasps to collars around their necks. “Do you want to become Her?” The tall one asked, gazing up at her with that same expression of wanting to fill the hunger inside her. But this time, She felt it too. These hounds would get the master they had been seeking for so long, and this time it would be Her.
