Sending the psykers who-knows-where and going back to live in Kasarelia looks a bit like Jacoba Aon yeeting the aura fleets into Upper Earth and then acting like that’s solved the problem.

Hmm. You make a great point, the similarities between the two shows are striking... But Gundam is too loaded down with its own history of endless conflict. We can’t believe in newtype miracles because we’ve already seen Char’s Counterattack and we know they don’t stick.

No no the innovation of dunbine is that they’re both exploiting each other in an oroboros of escalating violence and development

To me this is ur-Tomino: yearning for a world that no longer exists, anxious about the spiritual consequences of turning from nature toward technology, but aware that we passed the point of no return a long time ago. The road behind us is closed, our destination undecided.

Despite the ending, there’s every reason to believe these problems will continue. The Earth leaders who witnessed the destructive power of aura won’t soon forget it, and there are still plenty of people in Byston Well who know how to build aura battlers.

When chaos breaks out in Byston Well, it’s bound to spill over into Upper Earth. The Ferario leaders try to restore the status quo ante by shoving all the Earth technology back where it came from, but it turns out aura power is as disruptive to Earth as circuitry was to Byston Well.

I wonder if it’s a Macross/pineapple salad reference…

Congratulations!!

Though, as in Gundam, dunbine uses the English オーラ・バトラー for the battler *machines*. Presumably Byston Well had an indigenous tradition of dismounted or unicorn cavalry aura warriors before Shot Weapon brought his bug bots and his California-accented loan words to play.
