Well, another ArtFight done and gone (technically my 3rd, but my 2nd one being fully involved) & despite coming halfway thru, I actually got MORE drawings done than LAST YEAR'S ArtFight! Not only has it been productive as far as output, but I feel a lot more confident w/ the tools at my disposal.

We had a themed #Shrek party at the Michael's where my sibling works and, nearly out of ideas for what to make while we were crafting, I saw a fake cake they used to advertise their birthday parties. I felt inspired.

I forgot how awful it feels to cut cardboard with an #Exacto. Fun, but awful.

In his OG #GoldenAge run, #PlasticMan had a constantly shifting design, with a disappearing red sleeve, a half-black upper torso, and these boots(?) that were sometimes on just 1 leg, the latter 2 being too inconsistent to be shading.

So I thought, if #Spider-Man can have HIS black renaissance... 😏

Meet the Breakfast-Oriented Femme Fatale, aka BOFFy: the Robot Slayer! In the future, two gentlemen come home to find their apartment robbed, so they put together a mercenary of their own design to kill for profit, using anything left in their house... including in a Wi-Fi-capable toaster. Originally, she was meant to be part of an ensemble cast of gals from various universes & genres, but when the guy I was working with called it quits, he let me have it & I decided to expand upon the original concept. He wanted something a lil like My Life as a Teenage Robot, hence Jenny in tye corner there, and, well... it's cartoon-y! Sort of. Btw, how come indie comics always focus on mercenaries & bounty hunters like it's the most common job in the world? I, for one, pretty much ripped off SCUD the Disposable Assassin -- doesn't wanna get taken offline so she kills her creators (I made it more Isaac Asimov, you'll see) -- cuz that was all I had on my mind at the time, but Tank Girl, Cyberfrog, Body Bags, Spawn used to be one, Kickass had Hit Girl & Big Daddy, Deadpool was borderline indie at the start... Wasn't sure about the exposed hole in the inner thigh at first, but with a bit more polish, I still think it'd look more clunky & robotic with its inclusion. Also, for now, I think I'll stick to giving her a more angular, cartoon-y look than what happened with the leg area -- makes it more consistent.

train your hand-eye coordination & is best done before most tasks.

Don't be afraid to sit in front of a canvas/paper/etc & ruminate on a task before you're ready to draw.

Most importantly, not everything works the same for everyone; it's your job to find what works best for you. (2/2)
If the pictures aren't clear enough, make a square and split each segment in half, then split up each of the resulting halves, and over and over again until you're done, whatever that might mean for you. I like to see how small I can make the segments before they start to disappear.

Hello, #Artist newcomers!

If you're looking for tips/tricks, all I can say is that studies (ie, drawing from IRL references) help & practice makes... well, not PERFECT, but it helps solidify the things you learn in your memory -- "practice makes permanent!"

What if #Venom... had a cape???
Drawing on the back of a receipt showing Venom with a cape (more of a cloak, really) -- black with white inner lining -- shaped like his logo, the collar forming the mandibles while the cape itself is split into segments which, when folded, resemble spider legs/abdomen.

Captain John Battle, a clear rip-off of Captain America whose eye-patched existence has since lapses into the public domain. A close-up of Captain Battle's bust, complete with loosely slicked-back short black hair, aged forehead wrinkles, clear jawline and daredevil smile. I drew this mainly so people wouldn't think his head in the next pic is my final look for him. I'll say he didn't feel like wearing lipstick this time. Here we see Captain Battle's long-sleeve shirt & jetpack turned into a tank top & armbands. I imagine this is what he wears when he's at home on his day off.
