Another one I watched for class! It’s pretty important for being one of the first films Miyazaki worked on. It’s not really good, but it is really funny and stupid. It reminded me a lot of Scooby-Doo, if you want to watch something of that similar spooky vein.

There’re some ~uncomfy~ parts in the plot that feel unnecessary, and it’s not for everyone, but nearly everything about this movie is made specifically for me and my brother in mind. Game!

Mind Game is the movie every animation major needs to watch at least once. You really think you’ve seen everything until you watch this. I’ve heard some people say that this is a tech demo, and that the story is just a vessel to showcase neat animation, but I love the story too.

Nearly everything from the first film I disliked is either made up or nonexistent here. It’s really hard to convince people in the states to watch it, though. “Hey, do you want to watch this 2.5 hr long sequel to an animated movie you’ve probably never seen before?"

My first Brothers Quay film! I was real out of the loop watching it, this movie definitely isn’t for people who haven’t read the novel. I really like the puppet and background design, but most of the story was hard to follow.

I had to watch this short for class, but it was so good what the hell?? The comedy was on point and the expressions were intricate and fun to watch. It’s probably my favorite iteration of Mickey. It's a perfect short, honestly

My first Michel Ocelot film! I was both pleasantly surprised and also disappointed by the story. Even then, I will fight anyone who thinks this movie is ugly, I love the aesthetic and staging so much.

The character animation is some of the best I’ve seen in a good while. Certain characters lack depth, but the way they move for sure makes up for it. All the fantasy tech and architecture was beautiful, and you can clearly see the parts Takahata was inspired by.
