like, in china they have the disturbing digital companion stuff too, but the government demands that new dc construction hits renewable energy targets and that genai content is labeled or otherwise indicated, and that has a lot to do with why people assume things will work out in the end

right, anything that can be affordably run locally is not going away. managing expectations is going to be a challenge for mobilizing the issue politically, because some of the annoying stuff can’t be uninvented. but social media regulation in general requires attention, and resources are a constant

all this information is already out there. what’s sustaining it is people disagree about whether ai revenues will ever appear (i don’t think so, but there are real believers). what’s unclear is how much of the valuation is due to agreement versus structural financial flows into us equities
