Open source isn’t about shortcuts, it’s about curiosity, contribution, and community. Stop looking for step by step hand holding. Explore, fail, learn, and build. That’s what makes you a developer, not following some influencer’s content plan for views.

If you actually care about open source, stop waiting for “roadmaps.” Pick a project that excites you. Read the docs. Join the community. Submit a small fix. Talk to maintainers. That’s how you grow. You don’t need a YouTuber telling you what to do every step of the way.

The whole point of GSoC is to collaborate with real devs, contribute to real projects, and actually understand software development beyond your comfort zone. But influencers turned it into another “how to get selected” trend. No curiosity. No exploration. Just chasing a name.

And then students follow those videos blindly, memorizing steps instead of exploring projects or reading code. They think GSoC is some checklist to crack, not a collaborative, open source learning process. It’s wild how many people treat it like a competitive coding contest.

But no, every damn year these “tech creators” drop their clickbait: “GSoC Roadmap 2025”, “How to get selected easily”, “Top 5 orgs to apply for.” Like bro, there’s no hack! You just made a 10 minute video saying things that are already written on the official website 💀

If it’s open source, you’re supposed to explore, read code, understand how the project works, talk to maintainers, ask questions, and contribute! That’s the real journey. You don’t “study” open source, you get your hands dirty and learn from the people who are actually building.
