Trump: Many people don’t remember that our taking Alaska was considered by many to be a folly by Seward. Many of those brave Southerners like Robert E Lee did not like him you know - worst ratings in the South of any Secretary of State until Crooked Hillary.

They don’t need that. ourbiggest power is economic leverage. We’re, essentially, hub of international trade. The largest trading partner for most nations, and the dollar is the reserve currency. Destabilize that with trade wars, and others (China) will fill the vacuum, and erode our leverage.

Depends on the General’s willingness to accede to the direction of the Supreme Court in such a crisis, and the speed in which the court acts. Not the type of scenario evaluation I ever thought I’d consider (other than in the abstract), but here we are … and it’s not a comforting place.

Problem is that he is immune from prosecution. Essentially, it would come down to (I) the Generals refusing to enforce his orders (as illegal) and (II) him removing the Generals and replacing them with patsies (like Mike Flynn) who will do what he asks.
