Waiting for someone there to mention 4D Boxing, which might not fit as a “fight game” but was a friggin’ masterpiece. 😙👌🏼

This is me with tears in my eyes, in the opening moments of the Paul McCartney concert last night. He calmly walks out in stage, the whole arena realizes he’s there, and my kids, along with everyone else, just go bonkers.

Feeling like I’ve done ok with this dad thing. 🥹

Montréal summer nights always hit.
Tonight: the international street food festival at the Vieux Port—amazing!—capped off with this view from the pier. 🌃

New post from @mpershan.bsky.social, on math practice systems.

Key to me: the whole notion of personalized tutoring—some imagined ideal per-student learning path—is silly. *Ts* own the path. *They* are the adaptive algorithm. And yes, practice software *can* play a role —in the T’s hands.

I’ll add a couple of details, just for fun: we did a “glamping” bubble one night and that was a joy. And we finished with two nights in Quebec City — an absolute gem. ☺️

Just returned from a lovely, lazy road trip with my wife around the Gaspé and Acadie peninsulas. Remote and gorgeous. I’d definitely recommend.

When your Cleveland work conference is over and your friends are gone, you can sometimes go back to the Rock & Roll HOF and do extra things. Like rock out on the drums AT THE FRIGGIN’ ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME. 😎🔥
(One last Thank You, #CSTA2025)

Raymond Anacaya brings the house down with an opening flash equity talk at #CSTA2025… “Equity does not live in a line item. It lives in our *practices.* ✨

Father’s Day family brunch (orchestrated by our teenagers) gives way to a lovely afternoon on the patio, birds singing, sipping iced tea and relaxedly coding. I needed a day like this. 😌

It’s a luxury to have an electronics store in my neck of the woods that stocks #raspberrypi and #microbit all the time, and i can just waltz in and buy. Tx, Abra! 🤓

‘And that,’ put in the Director sententiously, 'that is the secret of happiness and virtue - liking what you've got to do. All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny.' #BraveNewWorld

Also, apparently, the last time I read this book, the #Montreal metro system used tickets like *this*. It’s been a while. 😅

Y’know, I liked the analog when i heard it recently, but oof… you’re right. This clip from the article is… 😬 er … *not* a correct understanding of what math teachers mean by developing Number Sense. Stepping through calculations is not it.

Friday night hockey game for my teenage son, and it’s our first time at Aréna Martin Brodeur — Marty’s old childhood rink in Montreal! This old NJ boy was *very* excited to see the memorabilia in the lobby. God, he was so good. 🏒 🥅 🏆
