Interesting. So your new saw has set both sides?
I know Veritas advertises their double edge flush cut as having set to one side only, and I’d thought that was the case for the single edge I have, but checking, it does indeed have zero set and a rather interesting tooth geometry to achieve that.

A different 2 cents of unasked for advice: contrary to popular belief, flush cut saws do not have zero set. They’d bind in the cut if they did. Rather, they have a small amount of set on one side of the plate and none on the other. Are you sure you had the right face against the work?

No, but it doesn’t effectively split Palo Alto in half the way Central Expressway does to Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara

Any maker spaces near you? They often have reasonably well equipped wood shops and classes to teach you how to use the equipment safely (generally mandated by their insurance).
