The Council had a great time at The Arc Maryland's SpArc Tank event. We learned about so many exciting projects that support Marylanders with disabilities. And, we celebrated 65 years of The Arc Maryland's impact on people with DD across our state.

The Council is now accepting applications for Small Grants.

Small Grants can fund projects and trainings in Maryland. They have to be related to the Council's mission and help us make progress on our State Plan.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This is the 80th anniversary of NDEAM. Every year, #NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities across the country. This year's theme is "Celebrating Value and Talent."

In July 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Yesterday, we joined the Department of Disabilities to celebrate 35 years of the ADA. Thank you to Attorney General Anthony Brown for his keynote speech about the importance of accessibility and opportunity.

Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month. This month honors the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Disability Pride Month also recognizes the history, contributions, and experiences of people with disabilities.

The Maryland Department of Health is proposing amendments (changes) to the DDA-operated Medicaid waiver programs. DDA is accepting public comments on the proposed changes until next Tuesday, July 8.

Congress is voting on a bill that could cut at least $700 billion in healthcare spending. Most of the cuts would be from Medicaid. More than 1.5 million Marylanders, including many people with DD, rely on Medicaid to live the lives they want with the support they need.

Last month, the Council and Maryland Department of Disabilities presented about our Playgrounds for All project at the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA) conference. We talked about why playgrounds should be designed for people with and without disabilities to play together.
