Good statement from IPPR on defence and aid. Raising defence spending is right and unavoidable. But cutting aid weakens the UK and it’s agenda in the world as well as harming the global poor and net zero goals. This decision should be revisited soon.

Under discussed, a third Heathrow runway would increase carbon costs - and therefore overall costs - for any other carbon producing industry, including steel, land transport, agriculture, construction. These costs must be factored in to assessments of impact and economic growth.

Staggering, really, that Farage’s career wasn’t completely torpedoed by this. The media / politicians have failed to pin this on him, Reform UK or the Tories that chose the form of Brexit we ended up with. Less damaging versions were available.

Fossil fuels cause incredible harm even beyond the climate damage. Yet still we find ways to burn more of the stuff.
