Dr.Dr. (no, really!) Victorianist and knitter; Fiction on the Page in Nineteenth-Century Magazines (OUP) out now
Oof, The Apartment hits *real* different in 2025, when you’ve met a few ‘but I’m a nice guy’ guys in your life, and Buddy tells Fran that he looked up her personal details in the company files, including her address, date of birth, and medical history 😨

Today at #BAVS2025 I accepted the BAVS Rosemary Mitchell Prize for a Second Monograph and got to speak about my book, Fiction on the Page in Nineteenth-Century Magazines. Thank you to @drmarylshannon.bsky.social (whose own book was highly commended) for taking these pictures ❤️

At #BAVS2025 I particularly enjoyed the Punch and Judy show, Pablo Mukherjee’s keynote, and this glorious cuneiform cylinder at the Ashmolean

Just published! My article ‘Book Culture and Narrative in Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire’ in Mythlore (Open Access)
This is me trying to think about book history in Westeros, oral culture, history writing, and the unnarrated life.

I liberated this gorgeous poster from my choir’s archive. I want to frame it; what do you think, print nerds, should I invest in UV glass to keep it fresh? I know nothing about cobolt blue Polish ink from the late 60s.
Just look at that type - how gorgeous is that? 😍

On Friday, I successfully defended my Dr. Phil at the University of Copenhagen! My amazing opponents were @mlmcgill.bsky.social and Paul Goring, chair was Tina Lupton. It was amazing, inspiring, exhausting, and a deeply meaningful culmination to all the work that went into Fiction on the Page

Isn’t the line breaking of this poem absolutely awful? They’re clearly trying to squeeze it into the space. (Englishwoman’s Domestic Magazine, volume 4, 1855-6, p.8)
