PIZZA GIRL by jean kyoung frazier :: this one was like reading an indie movie, in a great way. it did such a good job of bringing you inside the main character's head and exploring motherhood and obsession and queerness

HARROW THE NINTH by tamsyn muir :: okay, this one is a reread, but I really think tamsyn muir is a once-in-a-generation writer, and the fact she's using that skill to write about lesbian necromancers is a blessing on me personally

THE SECRET PLACE by tana french :: tana french is the best modern voice in crime fiction and i'm not even a huge crime reader. but the way she writes about ireland and landscape and relationships makes her books feel more like mythology than crime sometimes, and i'm always hooked

SODOM ROAD EXIT by amber dawn :: this book hit the exact right notes of bizarre and interesting and grungily fantastical for me. a brilliant kind of liminal queer fabulism i raced through !!

BORED GAY WEREWOLF by tony santorelli :: this book was just plain fun, and such a perfect picture of the kind of books i want more of, aka authentic portrayals of queerness that don't actually have anything to do with being queer

DIARY OF A VOID by emi yagi :: i read this in one sitting and it was so interesting. one of those books that really digs deep into a specific character's life and psychology with all the little nuances that just absorbs you while youre reading. it was beautifully translated from the japanese too
