Rust belt life in the 80s… a lot of the factories in the area were already shutting down, the mines were one of the only options left if you didn’t move away for college or military service.

My friend’s father worked in a mine. His father took him down into the tunnels after his sophomore year of HS and had them kill the lights. He went from barely C grades to a straight A student.
