CAISO—@californiaiso.bsky.social is out with its latest Key Statistics report, this one for August 2025.

Plenty of interesting info in this report - worth the read.

Here is the supply chart for yesterday....

Note that at 6:00pm CAISO was actually still exporting. Five years ago, imports were needed to satisfy this kind of demand.
August 22, 2025 at 3:59 PM
Yesterday was the highest peak demand so far in 2025 on @californiaiso.bsky.social - 43,735 MW at 6:00 PM.

Relatively easy to handle versus a few years ago due to the increase in Battery Storage.

Still, too much gas is being used to meet peak... more firm sources needed.

California grid operator - CAISO - @californiaiso.bsky.social has released its July Key Statistics report.

Well worth the read.

July was a mild month weather-wise in California, and the stats reflect this.

Battery storage is booming in the Western US - even outside of California.

- 7,200 MW of storage as of June 2025
- could have another 3,000 MW by year-end.

Need to keep up this pace if coal is to close out West.

New record for solar on ERCOT grid yesterday - 29,318 MW.
Source = www.gridstatus.io/records

Insane acceleration in solar deployment over the last five years.

Any bets on when solar hits 50GW on ERCOT? Over/Under for July 2028. We take the Under.

2) How is it possible to have 29GW of generation when demand is less than 26 GW?

- exporting to other other areas
- charging batteries

Note: CAISO does not cont Large Hyrdo as renewable.

1) The records keep falling on the California grid @californiaiso.bsky.social .

New renewables peak record - 29,040 MW at 3:10 PM on Thursday.

Notes:
- Demand at 3:10 pm was only 25,992 MW.
- Two years ago, the record was only 23,457 MW

A new record for battery discharge on CAISO - @californiaiso.bsky.social -

10,895 MW on June 17, 2025 at 08:05 PM

10,000 MW is now the "standard" for peak daily discharge. In another year, batteries will discharge 10,000 MW across multiple hours.

Big jump in renewable generation record for ERCOT yesterday.

Renewable generation went over 43GW for the first time - hitting 43,208 MW - representing about 58% of total output.

This record has increased by 13 GW in just three years!

CAISO set a new Renewables peak generation record yesterday at 28,242 MW at 1:05 PM.

The load at this time was only 21 GW, so this record would not have been possible without recent growth in battery capacity.

5) Next up, eliminating coal in the Southwest - NM, AZ and NV.

There is just under 5GW of coal capacity and about 20 TWh of coal generation to replace.

In 2025/26, these three states will add the following capacity:

Batteries: 6.7 TW
Solar: 4.5 GW
Wind: 3.7 GW
