I learned a similar example to this on a recent trip to Peru. Inca was the Quechua term for "king", but all the peoples were given the same name Inca by Europeans. They were the Quechua peoples, not Inca.

This is a great strategy which I have used before with students during their Ancient Egypt projects to collect statues!
