Loved this book. I had no idea about the roots of these "modern" ideas nor their philosophical similarity to Christian faith. Sort of scary/not-scary. The challenge I accepted was to simultaneously accept our limited ability to construct and grasp meaning, to revel in it and to try to break it.
Ok, I knew transhumanism and doomerism mirrored Christian eschatological doctrine. I did not realize transhumanism *started* as a Christian movement. O'Gieblyn, an ex-fundamentalist seminarian who lost faith, became a transhumanist, then lost faith again, is also a great writer.

The USA could reclaim democracy with the simple move of capping annual support of polical parties and associated entities like PACs and SuperPACs to values that mere mortals can afford. This is what we do in Canada and it is central to limiting corporate and oligarchical influence.

When we attack people's right to hold and express their beliefs we step towards erasure of the individual, the central goal both of totalitarian and patriarchal thought.

I'm thinking the question is whether men who have any issues respecting female colleagues in combat roles should be allowed to serve. What needs scrutiny is which men become soldiers, not whether women do.
