How has this sort of cookie blackmail been allowed to come in?

We ended up cancelling ours in that was in my wifes name and then i signed up for a new contract. Retentions couldn't compete with the new sign up deals. It did involve having to be sent a new router and tv box and sending back the old gear but worth it for the saving.
