When I was at school at Sandyford Road it was a rite of passage to go through the Dark Cully (a Culvert a covered waterway) to the Ouseburn Valley. The ouseburn valley was once the Industrial heart of Byker but all of the heavy industry has gone and it's a delightful spot.

Situated on the main through road in Ponteland is a three storey Vicars Pele tower.
Standing on the site of a 13th century hall house, it's believed the south wing may have been rebuilt as the tower in the 14th to 15th century. It then became part of a vicarage before it was demolished in the 19c
