Put it this way - the Greens got over 12% of the primary vote in 2022 but only ("only") hold four house seats. Their influence in getting policy deals out of Labor is proportionally higher than their presence in parliament, and they should be using that.

(Unless minority govt. Then things get fun.)

I'll admit I misremembered how many seats One Nation had in the late 90s - it feels like it was a similar level of influence but now that I look at it they only really did well in the Qld state election (and media attention)

Sure there's an argument whether Labor "really" disagrees with the Greens or just think they have to to hold the centre, I'm happy to listen either way but I think the practical difference is pretty marginal

Oh yeah I totally agree, but the point of minor parties has always been that they can talk ideological (for better or worse) while most of their actual effect on the election is to funnel preferences to a major party.

to be fair that also describes the Greens/Labor dynamic

My current feeling on this is if you're scared to deploy on Fridays then you have bigger problems. But, sometimes you DO have bigger problems. In that case, be honest about that and don't deploy on Fridays (but work on fixing the bigger problems).

But, yeah.
