I’m an avid backpacker, traveler, and occasional film photographer. I’m excited to connect and chat about science with folks, but you can expect some of my hobbies to appear here as well! Looking forward to actually engaging with Bluesky instead of silently observing the chaos on the other site :)

I’m originally from Seattle, WA, where I also did my BS in Earth and Space Science at UW. My friends will tell you I’m a walking PNW stereotype (and I wear that title like a badge of honor). I used to do outreach for the Pacific Northwest Seismic network and care a lot about science communication!

Now seems as good a time as ever to introduce myself - hi! My name’s McKenzie. I’m a 2nd-year PhD student in geophysics at UT Austin. My research investigates slow slip events in the Hikurangi Subduction Zone of Aotearoa-New Zealand using data from offshore borehole observatories.
