The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (Argento, 1970) certainly popularized the Giallo, but is clearly not the Ur example. So I’m team Bava on this one, but Argento did perfect the genre with Deep Red and Tenebre. #TheLastDriveIn @therealjoebob123.bsky.social @darcythemailgirl.bsky.social

At the risk of invoking the number one reason for horror fan fist fights, isn’t the first Giallo generally considered to be The Girl Who Knew Too Much (Bava, 1963)? I think Blood and Black Lace (Bava, 1964) is a better movie, but not the first… #TheLastDriveIn @darcythemailgirl.bsky.social
