Today, in many (but tragically not all) schools, teens like mine (15 and 17) - seem more willing to embrace each other’s uniqueness/weirdness. Or maybe my kids’ experiences are different than mine were because their schools are much more diverse than the schools I attended.

Welcome to old age, population us. My morning coffee thought - which I may reconsider later - is that in the 80s and 90s some of us leaned into our differences that got us ostracized from the cool kid cliques. And so we rejected the dominant culture and embraced counterculture.

Do you think it’s because we’ve generally become so reliant on social media (rather than the internet as a whole), and the profit-seeking algorithms are steering our eyeballs to what other eyeballs are seeing?
