Someone telling me they are a Republican is telling me they are not to be trusted with anything. That’s a very logical response for anyone to have to that information.

it's just kind of the same old story? guy has deep-seated dislike for entire categories of people, tells himself a just-so story about how that dislike is principled and how, if you put him and his friends in power, those people would go away and he would be happy for once.

it's not that the moral arc of the universe naturally bends towards justice, it's that the conditions that create and enable such evil do eventually cannibalize themselves, and in there, new opportunities arise. nothing is permanent, including these horrible pieces of shit.
