I purchased a #nuntastic print from @emilyscartoons.bsky.social and I absolutely adore it!

Day two of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Presidency Conference! Today the focus is diversity, equity, inclusion and well-being. I am very excited for these conversations!

I got a Marie Skłodowska-Curie baseball cap and am inordinately pleased by this. (Mandatory bathroom selfie.)

Here we go: the Marie Skłodowska-Curie 2025 Presidency Conference!

(I don’t know whether research support and policy people hang out on here. But I’ll live-skeet some highlights anyway. Because I think it’s crucial that researchers also understand policy developments.)

So much fun ending a Monday with a rehearsal of our new #EarlyMusic ensemble! And for a little while forgetting all my cares except “Why can’t I count to 2?” & “Why is it so hard to sing a falling 4th?”

Hosted by Uppsala Uni’s Musicology Dept. tonight!

Chose my morning coffee mug in honour of them this morning. I wish I had known their community existed when I lived in Salzburg; I would definitely have visited!

Today it’s a decade (how?!) since I submitted my PhD. And what a decade it’s been! Three European postdocs, national and EU funding, much time in libraries, beautiful books, beautiful music, wonderful colleagues, and now a fulfilling new career helping other researchers achieve success!

Today was the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action application deadline!

I always tell researchers that submitting a proposal is a huge accomplishment that should be celebrated. So I’m celebrating for all our applicants (and for myself) tonight! Pizza, root beer, and a mix of secondhand CDs.

First rehearsal of Uppsala’s newest (and coolest and most musicological) early music ensemble!

This is the first time I’ve sung in an ensemble in … a while, and it was so fun! I’m excited to see (hear) how we develop over the coming months.

My week ended with a lovely email from an applicant whose proposal I’m supporting and eponymous gelato from the best gelato place in Uppsala. (Marianne = a mint-coated chocolate candy from Finland.)

#TinyJoys: swatching in progress for my autumn knitting project. I think I might need to increase my needle size by 0.5

#TinyJoys: went to our local independent yarn store after work to pick up some skeins for my autumn(al) project.

(I know it’s August, but summer has definitely left Sweden.)

One of the things I enjoy about working in Sweden is the Office Fruit. Our (small) building gets two deliveries a week throughout the academic year - although not during summer.

It makes it easy to grab a healthy snack! (Although of course I still have Emergency Chocolate and Cookies.)

Tomorrow I’m back at work after a lovely two-week vacation. I spent a lot of time meandering, reading, & resting.

I’m grateful for my generous Swedish vacation time (I only used a portion). I’m also grateful that my current career encourages & allows me to unplug, unlike when I was a researcher.

Out of office: on!

In my researcher career I would work the entire summer.

In my research support career I am encouraged to use all of my holiday time - and Swedish holiday allowance is *generous*.

See you in a couple of weeks!

I really need a Playmobil Cistercian to add to my office collection. Lest anyone from my Life Sciences university forgets that I am in fact an early modern musicologist.

Started the day by delivering a writing webinar for our Marie Skłodowska-Curie applicants! As a former fellow myself, I am really passionate about this fellowship.

This day five years ago, I went to the spectacular Van Eyck exhibit in Ghent and saw the altarpiece with my own eyes. It was so incredibly crowded, and I remember wondering if it was safe. Soon it was Lockdown. I wouldn’t visit a museum for almost two years.
