Nope, it passed The Hurt Locker by another $15 mil.
A24 did a great job of distributing it for months into 2017; they got Moonlight into 1,500 theaters Oct-April while Summit got Bigelow a fraction of that and over the summer, people were much more interested in The Dark Knight than La La Land

Yeah, The Hurt Locker is the lowest grossing winner and it still pulled $50,000,000. Anora could still win but for the most part I think it lost its steam.

The Oscars don't ALWAYS want to comment on "the political moment," but they often do, if obliquely. The last time Trump took office was when Moonlight shock won. There was a general sense of wanting to show art could rise above tyranny, which benefited Moonlight (to be clear a TREMENDOUS film).
