Comparing the findings to an earlier Ipsos/University of Maryland Critical Issues Poll which asked Americans an identical question, we see that Canadians are more likely than Americans to describe Israel as “apartheid” and less likely to describe Israel as a “vibrant democracy.”

Perhaps most significantly, almost half (48%) of Canadians aged 18–34 who have an opinion say they view Israel as a state with segregation similar to apartheid. Only 4% say Israel is a vibrant democracy.

By political party, a significant majority (64%) of NDP supporters who gave an opinion view Israel as apartheid, as do a majority (53%) of BQ supporters and one-third (33%) of Liberals. Conversely, 0% of NDP, BQ, and Greens view Israel as a "vibrant democracy," and 8% Liberals.
