What draws a psychiatrist to explore non-medication alternatives?

I believe we share a sincere desire to help our patients feel capable of taking their health back into their own hands.

To support their autonomy, we expand their options, so they can choose what mental health looks like for them

Integrative approaches offer the chance to create long-lasting change--through building new habits, new ways of relating to others, and a new relationship with the body and mind.

They are free to use, have no side effects, and don’t rely on anyone except the individual, and their daily choices.

I am part of a community of psychiatrists who have reached beyond their clinical training to find new perspectives on what it means to be well.

Rather than leaving one approach behind, integrative psychiatrists combine medications with alternatives to offer a more complete approach to treatment.

I don’t see medication as inherently good or bad. I see it as one of many possible tools—more useful for some, less so for others.

Integrative psychiatrists recognize both the value and the limits of medication, and offer patients additional tools to support whole-person well-being.

I believe that there is more than one path to well-being.
For some people, the path will be fully supported by medication.

For others, medication will only get them part of the way there.
This is where integrative work begins, in the space between medications and well-being.
