Oooh bookmarking this, we miss our gas fireplace from our Ottawa house so much and have been considering electric options

My sister lives in Hamilton!

For me the train is much more convenient because I live beside a (not-Union) GO station, but I agree!

It wasn't me giving the talk, to be clear!

It took me the better part of an hour to make this thread Logistical overhead is much higher if you're not just choosing your own car for every trip, and that's a big barrier!

The limitation really is transit reach and frequency! We also go to Niagara a lot and transit is almost never feasible.

I mean, they could look at the end of a period (day, week, month), and they know exactly where you've been, all they have to do is apply the various fare calculations and they could retroactively give you the cheapest one.

This is actually the first time I'm using it, my parents figured it out and told me about it.

It should be integrated with Presto such that you are automatically charged the lowest fare, but it's not 😔

It is SO poorly advertised and implemented, but you can buy a $10 day pass on weekends for unlimited GO travel. www.gotransit.com/en/partners-...

If we added more people, the transit costs relative to car costs start to go up, but with the weekend GO rates it would still be cheaper up to adding 3-4 adult fares.

Overall, optimizing for both time and money, we'll be choosing GO train plus taxi. Even if the train cost more than driving I would probably still take it in this case, since it will be a much more pleasant experience and I can do crafts and play games and chat with my son on the way.

GO train plus bus will be about 2:20-2:30, depending on how fine we want to cut it and if things run on time. GO train plus taxi will be 2 hours. The train times are much more stable than driving times, regardless.

Driving times from Toronto to Hamilton are extremely variable. It could take 1:15 with no traffic, or 2:30 with traffic. Google says a typical drive will be 1:50.
