In Arches 2 years ago, we hiked out to delicate arch at the ass crack of dawn because it was July. On our way back, we passed a ranger telling a family with small kids that it was too hot and not safe for the kids to hike out at that point, and the father was ARGUING with the ranger. Like???

I'd also think about getting an ember mug that will keep your warm beverages warm. When I travel now the thing that I miss most about home is my ember mug 😂

This gives me bad Covid homeschool energy and I hate this for you.
September 2, 2025 at 4:18 PM
I think so! During covid I was very jealous of my friends with older kids, but now those young adult kids are still having some negative ramifications while mine aren't.

That's what my younger kid's teacher said. She was full virtual for all of kindergarten and hybrid for first - when they were all finally in person for second grade. She said it was like having a bunch of giant kindergartners on the playground.

Ha, well seems they turned out just fine 😁

But also the consequence for not doing your chores is more chores 😂
August 7, 2025 at 8:36 PM
Interesting! We do a set allowance every week not tied to chores because helping out is expected. But I don't buy them ANYTHING in the wild anymore besides basics (clothes, shoes) so they are learning the value of cash and have been disappointed when they didn't have enough to buy something

Genuinely curious - what would you have done differently?
August 7, 2025 at 2:45 PM
Yes!! This is anecdotal, but my husband was forced back to the office and he and many of his co-workers are refusing to buy lunches and what not in town on principal/protesting not wanting to be forced back into the office!

It was my oldest kiddo's first pride!

We're going strong on a 2 year sleepover ban (we get tears + panic attacks for days, NO THANKS)

I read a graphic novel last year called The Black Panther Party and I learned so much - recommend checking it out!

I run 2 plant sale fundraisers each year and I get one complain email every damn year, usually from the boomer grandparents. I cheerfully respond that 100% of funds raised go to classroom supplies and if they want cheap, they can go to literally any big box store.

I ended up in a leadership role in another volunteer realm and had to step down. I want to do physical work, but NONE emotional, thank you very much.
March 27, 2025 at 6:19 PM
I've been asked several times to do so and have always turned it down. It's all about managing complaints and emotions, very little DOING. I like being a do-er, I'm good at it, and I have my fill of managing emotions in my paid job and unpaid job of Mom.
