TL; DR:
It grinds my gears that society redacts "only" and "once" from "only hit me once" only in the context of IPV. But in child abuse, there's an acceptable "threshold" beyond which it "really counts".

11/ Unfortunately, being able to have a child (reproduction, surrogacy, adoption etc.) alone makes the fate of future children sealed in a Russian roulette... So I hope for praxis on additional filtering mechanisms to prevent adult supremacists from becoming parents/guardians in the first place.

10/ We know that the LGBTQ+ movement only went mainstream after Stonewall, so any asymmetric conflict for youth lib shall make unenforceable earning one's agency via "maturity" (and make it cradle to grave, as it ought to have been).

9/ My own internalised adult supremacy haunts me with "But if we let the kids exercise their veto by leaving their homes and going to youth lib safe havens, won't they just TikTok and play videogames all day and eat junk food?", so we need to confront the developmental myths behind this statement.

8/ Enthymeme: Once I become a parent (which I'm not) I'd stop with this "bookish knowledge" and "realise" that "adultism/childism exists for a reason".

7/ So far, adult me wishes to intervene upon adult supremacy (as recommended by Devon Price) but doesn't know how to respond to the sarcastic "So you think you're a better parent than me? Then why don't you care for my child instead?"

6/ While I'm lucky to have a neutral to good bond with my parents (neither woke nor the typical brown parenting) they once told me "Of course I'd want my child to learn their values first and foremost from me and not somebody else, or are they even my children?" (nvm objective morality)

5/ Most people believe than power is an efficient means to any end... Which blurs the lines between controlling the lives of children, and the roles of caregiver, nurturer and mentor.
July 13, 2025 at 3:28 PM
4/ Not to forget the Grand Unified Theory of the authority principle - that power is a "necessary evil" ("We need to put the right people at the top", "just" vs. unjust hierarchy a la Chomsky, the "against all authority except my mom" meme etc.).
July 13, 2025 at 3:28 PM
3/ The property claims of elders over children (read "eminent domain") is enshrined in family law on this very grounds - that "parents care about their children's best interests and can be trusted to be appropriate guardians of those interests". Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy!
July 13, 2025 at 3:28 PM
2/ Contrast that with a similar lack of veto or opt-out over familial relationships... They're de facto compulsory just because, by accident of birth (biological kinship).

1/ Harsh truth - DV activism hasn't succeeded by convincing every single man to change their attitudes towards women, but by women fighting for the right to veto (e.g. birth control, financial independence, no-fault divorce) any abuser writing off IPV as (say) "disciplining a woman like a child".

Just coming in here to mention that IMHO your Twitter posts are the best window into anarchism... Forever grateful that your tweets crystallized my understanding of how anarchist societies actually work
