Exactly that. We were away from home against a decent side, yes we had an extra man but we’re dog shit, they were better, and we got away with a draw after a tough week. Will take that

Maybe true but doesn’t feel like it to me. Often bring on an extra CB and drop deep rather than technical players who can keep the ball

It’s tactical not the personnel, it’s just how we’ve been coached to play and when a team can handle the set pieces we struggle, particularly so when they manage to take the lead. We’ve seen it before it’ll be a tough half ahead

Surely this stat needs refining? Those 5 yard short diagonals to the full back who is on the touch line just inside the final 3rd are made out to sound something much more than they are

Thank god. Very positive we are winning these game now. But do worry the approach will cost us at some point - best teams keep the ball and/or score a second to win not park the bus

Yeah guess is he’s looking for a 1.0xg v 1.1xg and hoping it goes in our favour then it works. Just hoping that’s not the aim for today and we try to create a bit more to win the game. Will find out soon

I just can’t get my head around why he does this, has it ever worked? Can’t picture Rice-Merino ever working as duel 8s - maybe Ipswich away end of last season. Not sure where his idea (seemingly) that it should be used for physical away games comes from

As you do, I really hope it’s Eze or Ethan if Odegaard isnt fit. If I remember correctly last season this was a Rice-Merino game and it was incredibly stodgy. Rice-Havertz the season before was equally tough to watch. Fingers crossed Arteta has learnt from these losses

Yeah I agree, would rather Ethan being the one receiving these passes anyway but yeah he’s not there yet. Feel like MLS can play these passes but we don’t seem to invert him quite as much as we did at his peak last year. Remember in one of his England games fizzing passes through the lines for fun

One of the biggest problems I have with how we play is we don’t ever seem to fizz the ball quickly between the lines, particularly from the cbs/dms into the 8s to quickly get through and running at the defence. Thinking how zinchenko and partey would do in 22/23

Happy to admit I probably under rate him and he gets picked every game for Spain so can’t be useless, but I just can’t stand watching him play. So clunky and uneasy on the eye, completely fails the eye test

I worry that we’ve signed a bit of a dud and Arteta will lose faith sharpish. Seems to be an expectation that at some point it will click for him, but personally I think that’s far from inevitable. We needed someone who can produce something from nothing and he doesn’t seem to be that unfortunately

Thanks, lots seem to just have chances created but not specificity for open play only. Have a feeling it would be pretty ugly reading for those two
