you can just get a mediGap plan. more expensive, but no insurance company gatekeeping.

seems like getting that waiver to delay implemetation a year til '29 (and hopfully it becoming a non-issue due to election in '26 and '28) is the smart thing to do

Any thought from your reporting on whether the Lisa Murkowski deal to delay implementation of the SNAP error rate consequence was considered? ie - error rate X 1.5 > 20 would delay cost sharing change to 2029.

i understand all the political angles, but....was there ANY thought to not requiring cloture, and thus not forcing reconciliation? yes, it means the tax cuts pass, but no 'forced' cuts that you have to find to fit the budget neutral requirement. i've seen Zero chat about this possibility.

tax receipts don't fund gov't programs. both sides need to accept this truth about how gov't financing works, but both sides will ignore it because it's too useful a cudgel to bash the other side with. it's up to citizens (and journalists!!) to push back this narrative.

the CBO has a restrictive mandate by law, which should be altered to better reflect a bills inpact on more than just if it adds to the deficit. that's a ridicuouly narrow way to judge legislation. however, that rule set is not partisan. if you don't like it, as no one should, change the law.

They better get off the deficit and debt train first.
June 1, 2025 at 6:10 PM
'the deficit' is just an accounting term. it can be good or bad to put more money into the domestic economy than you tax out of it. obvs, tax cuts for the wealthy is a bad use of deficit spending, but it actually is probably less inflationary than other more widespread spending. still bad tho!

per usual, gen x is forgotten. what about Murphy and Booker?
May 21, 2025 at 6:38 PM
If the same op-ed came out during Biden's term, would you object? if something is wrong or right, it doesn't matter who's in power at that time. you may disagree with how this president or that president spends money, but that disagreement doesn't change on how funding and taxes work.
May 17, 2025 at 8:39 PM
‘The deficit’ is just money put into the domestic economy that wasn’t taxed back. It can be good or bad.
