Marketing Sprint, Day 3 – Pivoting

After testing competitors' apps and extensions, I’ve decided to drop my MVP.

Reasons:
1. Netflix-only focus is too narrow.
2. Google traffic likely won't bring me even $200/month.
3. ↘️

Idea: A Chrome extension that allows users to subtitles from Netflix videos.
Question 2: Can this idea be monetized?

Let’s analyze existing competitors. Examples include:

Well, January is over.
To those doing "12 startups in 12 months" - how's it going? Is your first startup live? 😂

P.S. read this with a bit of irony, of course 🫶 good luck to all of us

Today I remembered of how I kept rewatching tutorials about OAuth because I felt I didn’t fully grasp the topic

Then, I finally started working on the auth for my pet project, and the first version crashed, for sure

I turned to StackOverflow for answers (it was pre-ChatGPT era😅)

Today is a "skip" evening - I skipped gym, marketing tasks, coding.

Just scrolling the feed and commenting on interesting posts 🛋️

Yesterday, I showcased the MVP of a Chrome extension that I would use myself.

The coding part is fairly simple.
That's why I want to document the marketing sprint.

Over the next 5-7 days, I’ll be posting daily updates:

Last week, I wasn’t happy with my progress in Spanish.
This week, I fixed smth in a nerdy way - I capture subtitle text with just one click.
It’s now much easier to check words.
Some UI tweaks, like button positioning, are on the way.

What have you learned that became obsolete because of AI?

I'll start:
1. Regular expressions
2. SQL

Both were learned through tutorials, but now I rely on ChatGPT for these tasks.

1. Don’t start by building marketplaces. Balancing supply and demand is a nightmare when you’re just starting solo
2. Any programming language, framework or database is fine, as long as you’re comfortable with it
3. Paying customer > Product Hunt launch

I built Lexify almost 2 years ago.
I quickly lost interest in it (10 users aren’t motivating 😅)

Now, after building more successful apps, I’ve come to realize that Lexify is:
🧩 incredibly niche
🆓 not monetizable
🗣️ And as a language nerd, I just love it

I have to admit...I don’t understand what an AI agent is

I just subscribed to a newsletter from an AI advocate, guess what: the first article is an n8n scenario that scrapes, calls APIs and sends some info to Slack

Does making API calls to OpenAI transform automations into AI agents?

How’s your Friday night, indie makers?

I’m listening to an SEO course, just 30 minutes, but I’ve already picked up some good insights

I’ve come across discussions comparing X/Twitter and Bluesky a few times, and I’ve distilled my opinion on the matter.

At first glance, X seems more active and gives the impression of endless opportunities, while Bluesky feels calmer. But I started questioning myself:

I opened Notion today after not using it for a while, and it's incredible!

I love how they've introduced a templates marketplace. Finally, Notioneers are well-represented within Notion itself, and the search and installation process is so smooth.
